What FX Licence Check South Africa is, and the lines it does not cross.

An independent editorial team publishes this guide

This guide is written and maintained by a small independent editorial team that covers forex for South African readers. The team is not owned by a broker, a bank, or a signal seller, and no trading firm has editorial control over what appears here.

Every page is written for one reader: someone in South Africa comparing how leveraged forex works, what it costs, and which firms are allowed to serve them. That framing shapes what gets published and what gets cut.

Where a claim depends on a figure we cannot verify, the page tells you where to check it instead of guessing. That is why you will see pointers to the FSCA register or a broker's own funding page rather than invented numbers.

A register says whether a firm holds a licence on the day you look, and nothing about how it treats clients. Search by the registered company in the footer rather than the name on the homepage.

Affiliate commissions fund the work, and they do not buy rankings

The guide is funded through affiliate commissions. If you open an account with a broker after following a link from this site, the site may receive a payment. That is the commercial model, and it is disclosed rather than hidden.

Commission does not determine placement, ratings, or whether a broker is mentioned at all. A firm that pays nothing can still appear in a comparison, and a firm that pays well can still be left out if it fails the checks described on the relevant page.

No broker is described here as licensed, safe, or best. Licensing is a factual question about the FSCA register, and it is answered by checking the register, not by trusting a review.

Undated figures are opinions in disguise. What we could not trace back to a source was dropped rather than guessed at.

South African regulation is the first filter, not an afterthought

Any firm offering leveraged forex to South African residents needs an FSCA ODP licence. The Financial Sector Conduct Authority publishes its list of authorised financial services providers at fsca.co.za, and the FSP number quoted by a broker should appear there.

If a firm cannot point to an FSP number that matches the register, that is a signal to stop and check before sending money. The register is free, public, and the only source that settles the question.

Local practicalities matter too. Deposits and withdrawals usually move over EFT, with instant EFT, Ozow, Capitec Pay, card, and ordinary bank transfer also in use. Confirm the methods and any cut-off times on the broker's funding page, since those details change.

Brokers usually also ask for proof of address - municipal bill or bank statement; requirements differ per firm. The firm's own sign-up page is the list that counts.

Corrections are published, and you can prompt one

If something here is wrong, it gets fixed and the fix is noted. Send the page address and the specific error, and include a source such as an FSCA entry or the broker's own documentation.

Corrections that change a factual claim are made at the top of the affected page so a returning reader sees them. Minor wording changes are made quietly, because they do not alter what the page tells you.

The guide does not accept payment to remove a correction, and it does not quietly delete a page to avoid one. If a claim cannot be supported, it comes out.

What this guide will never do

It will not promise profit, suggest a return, or imply that forex is a reliable way to earn a set amount. Leveraged forex can lose money quickly, and no page here will dress that up.

It will not name a broker as licensed, safe, or best. It will not invent authors, awards, testimonials, or statistics to look more authoritative than it is.

It will not quote spreads, fees, minimum deposits, or tax rates as if they were fixed. Those belong to the broker or to SARS, and they should be read at the source.

The four things a broker will offer you

MetaTrader 4The older standard; expert advisors and a large script ecosystemMetaQuotes
MetaTrader 5The newer build; more order types and timeframesMetaQuotes
cTraderDepth of market and a different order modelSpotware
The broker's own appUsually simpler, and tied to that one firmThe broker

A platform is software, not a safeguard: the same terminal is offered by licensed and unlicensed firms alike. App stores list software. Registers list permissions - and that is the one that matters.

How to verify a provider's FSCA status without leaving the official register

The FSCA publishes its list of authorised financial services providers at fsca.co.za. That register is the only source this guide treats as proof of authorisation. A broker's own website, a comparison table or a review is marketing material, not evidence, and should never be the last step in your checks.

Search the register using the exact legal name, not the trading brand. Firms often operate under a name that differs from the licensed entity, and a mismatch is not automatically a problem, but it does mean you need to confirm which entity holds the authorisation and what it covers.

If a provider cannot be matched to an entry, treat that as an unanswered question rather than a verdict. Ask the provider which legal entity contracts with you, then check that entity against the register yourself. The order matters: verify first, deposit second.

Limits and fees are set by the provider and the broker and change without notice, so they are not printed here. Verify it twice, once in the app and once on the funding page, and never withdraw to an account that did not fund you.

What an FSCA entry does and does not tell you about a forex provider

An entry confirms the entity appears on the public register, which speaks to authorisation and conduct oversight. It does not certify that a product suits you, that pricing is competitive, or that any particular outcome is likely. Authorisation is a gate, not a guarantee.

Readers frequently treat a register entry as a safety rating. It is closer to a licence to operate. The FSCA supervises conduct and can act against firms, but it does not underwrite your losses or review every term in your client agreement.

The practical consequence is that you still read the client agreement, the risk disclosure and the funding terms. Use the register to establish who you are dealing with, then use the documents to understand what you have agreed to.

Before you send money
What you seeWhat to check
A fixed monthly return, promised in advanceAsk which licence permits it, then look the firm up on the FSCA list of authorised financial services providers.
A deposit asked for in gift cards or vouchersCheck the broker's own funding page: firms list bank, card and wallet rails, not vouchers.
Someone offering to trade the account for youManaging money for a client is a separate permission. The register says whether a firm holds it.
A withdrawal released only after a new paymentRead the withdrawal terms you agreed to. Fees devised at the moment of payout are not among them.

None of this is a judgement about any firm. Each line is a check you can run yourself, starting at fsca.co.za.

Why South African funding routes settle on different timelines

EFT, instant EFT, Ozow, Capitec Pay, card and bank transfer are not interchangeable when timing matters. A manual EFT can leave your account immediately but reach the broker later, which means the funds may not be available for trading at the moment you expect.

Card payments and instant methods usually reflect faster, but they can introduce their own verification steps. A failed or reversed card payment is a common failure mode, and it can trigger a manual review that delays the credit even after your bank shows the money as gone.

The order of operations is simple. Confirm the broker's accepted methods on its own funding page, check any cut-off times there, and keep the payment reference exactly as instructed. If a deposit has not appeared, raise it with the broker before sending a second payment.

ClosedFriday New York close until the Sydney open on Monday

Hours are shown for the clocks in force today: London is on GMT until 28 March, New York is on EDT until 1 November. South Africa does not change clocks, so each move shifts these local times by an hour and the page is rebuilt on the day it happens.

Withdrawals are a separate process from deposits, and the difference catches people out

A funding method that works smoothly for deposits may behave differently in reverse. Some routes support deposits but not withdrawals, or require the withdrawal to return to the same source. That is a term to check before you fund, not after.

Withdrawal requests can also pause for verification that was never completed at sign-up. Identity documents, proof of address and source-of-funds questions are routine, and a missing item typically stalls the request until it is supplied.

Keep your own record of each request: the date submitted, the method, and the reference. If a withdrawal is delayed, that record is what lets you ask a specific question rather than a general one, and it makes any later complaint or correction request far easier to pursue.

Time zones, trading hours and the SAST baseline

South Africa runs on SAST, which is UTC+2 and does not shift with daylight saving. That fixed offset matters because most forex activity is described in other time zones, and readers often misread a session time as local when it is not.

The consequence is practical rather than technical. Market hours, platform maintenance windows and support availability published by a provider may all be stated in a foreign time zone, so convert them to SAST before you plan anything time-sensitive.

Do not assume a broker's support desk follows South African business hours. Check the hours it publishes, note the time zone it uses, and treat any deadline in a promotion or funding term the same way. Convert first, act second.
